Day trip to Melkote with photographer Arjun Swaminathan

If you have an SLR/DSLR and want to engage in a fun outdoor activity where you will learn about taking better pictures while having a good time, this is a wonderful event designed for you.

The temple town of Melkote was constructed on the rocky hills known as Yadavagiri or Yadugiri overlooking the Cauvery valley. The great Indian teacher Saint Ramanujacharya lived in this town, and soon after Melkote became a cultural hub for scholars of Sanskrit, Vedas and Indian science.

Melkote which is about 130 kms from Bangalore, has two distinct temples. The Tirunarayana temple at the foothills and the hill temple to Yoga Narasimha. The temple is known for it's large Kalyani (man made pond) and the Mantaps built all around it.

The temple, the Kalyani, the passages that weave in and around, the rock formations give a zillion inspirations for photo enthusiasts to get 'that perfect picture'. Participants will learn about techniques, aesthetics and practice of handling a camera as they go around exploring the temple site. Professional Photographer Arjun Swaminathan's expert eye will guide you to the best spots.

A review session on the following Saturday will help participants share their work with each other and will include a critique session with Arjun.

Itinerary:

Reporting at active canvas : 5:45 a.m.
Departure from Bangalore (from active canvas campus) : 6 a.m.
Arrival at Melkote : 9.00 a.m.
Departure from Melkote: Between 4.00 & 5.00 p.m
Arrival at Bangalore (to active canvas campus) : 8.30 p.m.

Fee: Rs.3000/- + service tax of 10.3%

No. of participants: 15

What we provide

Apart from the instruction the fee includes food & beverages, to & fro transportation. F & B include: Breakfast, Lunch and an early dinner on the way back, snacks & beverages during the trip. The food will be simple south Indian fare.
